Area magazines advocate the lifestyle and attractions of a specific geographical area. Area magazines target an audience of area newcomers and area residents. Area magazines are distributed using a mix of print and electronic formats.
AREA MAGAZINE CONTENT:
Area magazines promote businesses, people and places. Area magazines have a positive lifestyle message with no political exposes or negative reporting. Area magazines emphasize beautiful pictures and artwork.
AREA MAGAZINE DISTRIBUTION:
Area magazines are delivered by Pelican to real estate agents for distribution to new property owners and delivered by Pelican to organizations for distribution to area newcomers. Area magazines are distributed directly by Pelican to residents at area home shows and in business lobbies. Perhaps most importantly, area magazines are distributed directly by Pelican to area newcomers and residents at “Living in…” websites.
AREA MAGAZINE ADVERTISERS:
Pelican works diligently for its advertisers by offering a package of advertising opportunities for one reasonable price. Advertisers can use Pelican’s “Living in….” website for placement of a keyword rich, text based advertisement. Advertisers can use Pelican account representatives to deliver coupons at area home shows. Advertisers can soon use Pelican’s Smart Book website to electronically deliver coupons.
Unique enhancements offered by Pelican include:
Pelican’s area magazines are community driven which requires a local emphasis. Typically, the smaller the geographical area, the stronger the community ties. Pelican makes local area magazines affordable by sharing content and advertisers with larger area magazines while still focusing a large share of content and advertising of the local magazine on local people and local places.
Real estate agents have a natural connection with area magazines and Pelican allows real estate agents to personalize area magazines with their own magazine cover. Real estate agents choosing to personalize with their own magazine cover pay on a per magazine basis just like a newsstand sale.
Pelican’s magazine editors also publish blogs on local ‘Living in…..’ website to increase magazine and advertiser visibility. This blogging website currently generate annualized rate of 12,000 unique visitors (and growing).
Advertisers can have their print advertisements converted to a text based advertisement complete with keywords and placed within the ‘Living in….’ website. This text based advertisement can even become an advertiser’s business website.
Pelican currently distributes paper coupons for its advertisers at area home shows in convention bags with Pelican’s area magazines. Pelican expects to soon begin distributing electronic coupons on its recently acquired website, www.TheSmartBook.com.
“Living in Denver” covers the Denver metro area and is the largest of Pelican’s area magazines. Through the sharing of resources, “Living in Denver” has led to the creation of smaller local publications like “Living in Lakewood”.
Pelican has published a Denver metro area magazine since 2009. Pelican has long term contracts with ReMax and Coldwell Banker franchisees to distribute its Denver area magazine to their customers. Personalized cover pages are used by ReMax and Coldwell Banker to promote their brand with pictures, slogans, logos and customized messages.
Pelican also uses the blogging website of www.MovingToDenver.co to target a newcomer audience and www.LivingInDenver.co to target a resident audience.
Pelican publishes local area magazines for communities located in the Denver metro area. In order to make these magazines top notch publications for an affordable price, Pelican shares some non-geographic related content and other resources with the larger Denver metro magazine.
2012 FALL/WINTER DENVER AREA MAGAZINE: The 2012 Fall/Winter edition of the Denver area magazine has been expanded to 100 pages providing at least 50% more fresh content and beautiful pictures in a perfect bound coffee table edition.
Pelican publishes Kansas area magazines with an emphasis on wildlife and country living.
The Kansas Wildlife Magazines celebrate a way of life in harmony with the Kansas plains. Isolation, quiet surroundings and blue skies make the Kansas prairie a natural treasure.
Kansas is a nearby wildlife and nature paradise for Denver area residents. This makes Pelican’s Kansas area magazines a good fit with Pelican’s Denver area magazines.
A digital version of the north central edition of My Wildlife Magazine, along with articles and galleries focusing on life in Kansas are available at www.MyWildlifeMagazine.com. A north eastern edition of My Wildlife Magazine will soon be available.

The advertising world is changing and Pelican is also changing.
Advertising is changing from a print only world to a multiple medium world. For this reason, Pelican sells advertising “packages” that encompasses both print magazines, for time and places when it is faster and more convenient to physically pick up magazines, and electronic magazines, for time and places, when phones and tablets are faster and more convenient for viewing magazines.
Advertising is changing from the simple task of taking advertisement orders to working on behalf of advertisers during the entire shelf life of the magazine. For this reason, Pelican works hard on its blogging websites to promote magazines and advertisers. Pelican also works hard on getting advertiser coupons in the hands of consumers at home shows.
In another significant change, advertising effectiveness can be increased by duplicating image based print advertisements with text based web advertisements on Pelican’s blogging websites that automatically provide key words to search engines.
